Harnessing Student Potential In Microfinance
Well it's the middle of the week and the hunger is starting to get to me. Yesterday I had 3 pineapple slices for breakfast and Ramen for lunch around noon, skipped dinner so I could have breakfast today. Today I had peanuts for breakfast and Ramen for lunch. Then I went to Dollar General and got a loaf of bread and pineapples slices to last me the rest of the week. A friend of mine has peanut butter, so we'll share the bread, and hopefully it won't go bad too quickly. I did save $1.56 just in case it does go bad and I need food. Also, I heard that someone stole someone else's Juicy Juice. That's cold. So now I'm carrying my food with me.
Last night was FREEZING!! My feet were so cold even in a sleeping bag. I can't imagine how those without sleeping bags got through that. However, I do feel that after Monday night we can take any weather that comes our way the rest of this week. Also, a friend told me "If you're cold at night, just think about how much worse it would be if you were in Russia." and that made me grateful to be here.
The new shelter is much better built than the last one I think. (no offense to those who built the last one) It's easier to see open spaces and it feels more stable, plus we had some newfound materials.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow's discussion, I want to hear what other people's perspectives are about this week and how they feel about what we are doing.

I haven't slept in the shelter yet but when I walked by today it did look pretty legit..I'm going to try to stay the night tomorrow, but I heard it's been freezing and I don't have a sleeping bag so I guess it's good that everyone's forced to be ..cozy? I hope thinking about Russia actually helps.
I have no idea how you're living off pineapple slices!
Yeah, I am now noticing how few calories my body is intaking now that it's halfway through the week. But, on the bright side, less than 48 hours and we will be finished with TDC and able to eat all that our hearts desire.
I agree that the shelter is much better built. I didn't sleep in there last night, but I can definitely tell how much more stable it is just by looking at it. Props to those who built it! It looks very cozy in there (although I'm a bit claustrophobic, so I don't know how long I'd be able to stay in there), and I think after the hazards of Monday, everyone knew exactly what needed to be done in order to better stabilize the shelter.
Becky - I'm so glad the shelter feels more stable! I was really worried yesterday when we were collecting more building materials that we wouldn't find any dry cardboard at the very least!
Ashley - I was wondering how much space everyone had. It does seem like a good idea to huddle together for warmth but I suppose if it should be warmer then it'll be easier to spread out.
See you both out there tonight!
Becky -
I totally agree with you on how freezing it was last night. My feet were numb this morning and took forever to warm back up! Also, I do believe the new shelter is much better and it helps that no more hurricanes are coming through. I believe our new shelter keeps out the wind a lot more and is more spacious. However, I wouldn't mind if it was a little cozier so everyone's body heat was kept close together.
Tonight, I feel will be a much better experience since it will be warmer. Thanks for sharing your day three experience!
