What a week! On Thursday I only wrote a comment on the review of the article from the Bullet, but I wanted to go back to that day because it was by far the hardest day for me. Today, almost all of our discussion revolved around an article published in the Bullet, our school's newspaper. I think we were all very surprised by the author's ignorance of the subject which she was discussing, the $2 Challenge which we are participating in this week. The author accused us of "pretending to be poor", being "self-righteous", only learning sympathy by "living in a box" and "playing dress-up", amongst other condescending insults. I was again today pleasantly surprised at the ease I've had with not "cheating". We made a very successful grocery store trip today and I've really enjoyed how much sharing has gone on between everyone! Today I really felt like I was part of a community around dinner time. Everyone had their pots of random pastas and rice in front of them and we all just passed them around offering what we have! I have been pleasantly surprised at how well I'm adjusting to living on just $2 a day. I really haven't felt any strong needs to "cheat" yet, although I have already looked at ways that I can get more creative in what I'm eating! So far I've gotten by on just $1.30, which has consisted of 5 packages of Ramen Noodles, 4 pieces of bread, and a banana.
