Harnessing Student Potential In Microfinance

For those of us who are currently working on or will soon to be working on research related to Microfinance, what are the best sources of data?

I imagine that the Microbanking Bulletin, Microfinance Information Exchange, and the CGAP are good places to start, but how about other sources of raw data?

Any suggestions?

http://www.developmentdata.org/ This website might be useful to those persons to get data on inequality, trade, aid, education, agriculture, migration, health, FDI, population, governance, private sector and debt, and to websites that host and/or catalogue household survey data. These data might indirectly help us to design products for Microfinance.

Developmentdata.org provides easy access to free, reliable developing country data (data you must pay for are not listed here). The data linked to are provided by reputable international organisations and research institutions and data documentation is available for all the data.

Hello,

In my research experience and having worked with different data sets, I've found the Rating Fund to be reliable, easy to interpret, and standardized. The program's full name is the Microfinance Rating and Assessment Fund, and they publish the Microfinance Outlook Report http://www.microfinance.lu/231.html?&L=1
The Mixmarket data base is self-reported, and not to say that MFIs can't accurately report their data, but having a third party come in and do an assessment with standardized procedures has been useful and has provided accurate and comparable data.

Happy research!
